RRI Energy manages its generation assets with best-in-class operational and maintenance practices to ensure the generation of safe, reliable and economical electricity in an environmentally sensitive manner. The company operates a diverse fleet with a range of dispatch types and fuel capabilities, well-equipped to meet the variety of demand requirements of the market.

The RRI fleet includes a range of technology types, from conventional pulverized coal units to the latest circulating fluidized bed (CFB) coal technology used in its Seward waste coal facility in Pennsylvania. Gas technology ranges from new combined-cycle units to combustion turbines and traditional steam units.

Fuel Type

Our plants burn a variety of fuels. As fuel is a key component of electricity generation, we are able to optimize generation to match market demand with the most appropriate, least cost generation asset.

Technology Type
Our fleet includes a range of technology types. Our coal fleet includes both the latest Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) technology, found in our Seward waste coal facility, and the more conventional pulverized coal units found elsewhere in our fleet. Gas technology ranges from new combined-cycle units to more mature steam and combustion turbines.
